Welcome
Since its formation in 1967, the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC) has been committed and actively engaged in promoting free trade and investment through open markets leading to regional economic cooperation and development.

As a distinctly apolitical pro-business association bringing together business leaders across Asia Pacific, PBEC is recognized and serves as the independent voice of business in the Pacific.

In the past 40 years, PBEC has promoted and facilitated a platform for ongoing dialogue, cooperation, and policy discussions between the region’s leading business figures and government leaders.

In light of ongoing economic challenges affecting businesses in a globalized marketplace, PBEC’s mission is as relevant today as it was at the outset.

Chairman's Message
It is with much delight that I am writing this message in my capacity as the newly elected Chairman of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC)

With the lingering sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone, many countries may contemplate the implementation of protectionist regulations to ensure a stable economic recovery. Countries may also implement new quantitative easing measures to revive the economy through spending on infrastructure and related projects. Adding to these is the severe disruption within the global supply chain caused by the Japan earthquake and Thailand flooding.

Against this backdrop of uncertainties, this is the time when PBEC, representing the voice of business, can and should actively engage in dialogues with governments, business leaders and relevant stakeholders to ensure that free trade, along with a growth-driven environment are maintained to provide a sustainable and balanced revival of the world economy.

Given the growing wealth, power and influence of the Pacific region, PBEC is taking on a more active engagement of corporations in Asia and Latin America, ensuring that their viewpoints are discussed and heard. In addition, we will also spotlight the growing importance of SMEs with the aim of establishing PBEC as an effective vehicle for SMEs to increase their engagement throughout Asia Pacific and within process of APEC, ADB, WTO and other fora.

PBEC’s strength of building capacity and influence through the sharing of knowledge, insights, and advocacy is making us an indispensable partner in the development, growth, and economic integration of Asia Pacific. We are committed to continuously enhance our membership base in 2012. No doubt our collective membership strength would make a huge difference to the world that we are living in.
