By invitation only – PBEC hosted its 3rd Pulse Briefing event of 2019 since Michael Walsh the new CEO took the helm in June. It was held in Ho Chi Minh on the side-lines of the Horasis Asia Forum in Binh Duong Province and welcomed keynote addresses from two of its prominent Board Members.
Entitled “A New Asia – Implications for Vietnam” it welcomed over 20 PBEC members and VIP’s for an intimate roundtable dialogue over some welcomed lunch with 3-4 accomplished speakers.
After PBEC CEO Michael Walsh welcome remarks we welcomed Ben Simpfendorfer Co-Founder of Silk Road Associates who opened the discussions with a fascinating look at changing dynamics of the manufacturing supply chain and where the Southern China’s manufacturers have been relocating production too. You could really get a sense of the impact this has had and is having on Vietnam and how it also affects and creates other opportunities and challenges in the region. Then we welcomed Andy Ho CIO of VinaCapital and MD of Vietnam Opportunity Fund, who shared with us many of the latest opportunities by sector in Vietnam and what to watch out for. He was then joined by VinaCapital Chief Economist Michael Kokalari and Tam Tran Head of Clients and Markets at KPMG Vietnam who added further analysis and opinions to the dialogue on Vietnam and its future outlook. In summary it was a brilliant mix of talented and experienced economists and entrepreneurs that shared extremely useful market insights that all who attended were very appreciative in having witnessed and all took a lot away with them and food for thought.
The next PBEC Pulse Lunch briefing will head to Bangkok, Thailand to be held at the Bangkok Club on Monday 20th January 2020. Where we will welcome a keynote address from Former Thai PM Abhisit Vejjajiva who has kindly agreed to become a PBEC Senior Representative from 2020.
